The Hawk

Beautiful birds soared high in a blue sky,

Without a care in the world as they drifted on the breeze,

And then came the hawk.

So, this is just a new style of writing that I tried out. It’s free verse and it’s very abstract. I’d love to hear what you all think about it!

I like free verse, as it allows us to play around with words more and not be bound by the constraints of other forms of poetry.

I like this one, ‘The Hawk’, because the abrupt 3rd line allows an image of catastrophe to form in our own minds rather than being told detail by detail. We feel empathy for the smaller birds, yet there is beauty in the hawk too … its power and need to survive.
