Rebirth

I started out writing this poem for a competition. I didn’t win. But I did get honourable mention.

The butterfly spread out its wings and plunged into the light,

All around it flowers bloomed and called the end of night,

The summer months were humid so and winter was a trying time,

But with the arrival of spring came the chance for another life,

In the far reaches of the valley the stream passed lazily by,

As, in the forest, the trees shook their branches with pride,

The animals all clustered round awaiting their elixir of life,

The waterfall gushed down the rocks to the rescue of the wildlife,

The season of life is sprung again one feels it in the air,

So never forget that after a gruelling winter, spring will always be there.
